Turn..turn…turn

Another song from my youth! Really showing my age this time. The Byrds. Jim Morrison. And all you Baby Boomers out there are singing along. “to everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven”. Some may recognise those words, not from the song, but from a funeral service. They come from the Bible (Ecclesiastes 3 to be precise), and I often use them at funerals. They speak of the times and seasons of life. A time to be born and a time to die…

For me, a time to start work and a time to retire. I’ve eventually got there! I thought I had a few years ago when I retired from teaching, but God had other ideas! And sent me up here to be your vicar. Well, now it really is time to retire. Time to say goodbye to all you good people of Whissendine and Teigh, Ashwell, and Market Overton who I have got to know over the last 5 years. What’s to be said? Well, probably the only thing is “Thank You”…for making me welcome when I arrived, thank you for your patience, friendship, and fun. Thank you for sharing your lives with me. Thank you for letting me be part of some of the special times – happy and sad. It’s been a privilege to get to know you, especially the church family at St Andrew’s. We have become good friends and enjoyed good times.

And the future? I shall be moving later in May to Wellingborough, home territory – I went to school there and taught there for 26 years. Here, at some point you will have a new vicar, but the post hasn’t been advertised yet. Hopefully not too long. Meanwhile, if you need someone from the church, contact John or Paul, the churchwardens, and they will help you out.
If you pray, say one for me, and I will for you.

Blessings,

Janet
