From the Highways Agency:
I’m writing to inform you of some upcoming essential works along the A1. We’ll be carrying out safety improvements and maintenance work between South Witham and Little Ponton.
Our work will include resurfacing, road markings, replacing the roadside signage and vegetation clearance. Once completed, road users will benefit from a safer road and smoother journeys.
Safety is and always will be our number one priority; that is why our ambition remains that no one should be harmed while travelling or working on our roads.
When will this work take place?
Our work is planned to start on 20 January 2025, and we expect to complete by mid-April 2025
To minimise disruption, we’ll work overnight between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.
To complete our work safely, we’ll work under full carriageway closures, including slip roads, crossover points and laybys where applicable.
- A1 northbound closed – Monday 20 January 2025 to Friday 21 March 2025
- A1 southbound closed – Monday 24 March 2025 to mid-April 2025
During closures, we’ll install a fully signed diversion via the A607 and A606.
Access to frontages that fall directly within our closures will be maintained by an escort service which will be provided via our on-site traffic management operatives. There may be short delays whilst we ensure that the site is safe for access.
Access for the emergency services will be maintained at all times.
We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum. We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.
