Advanced notification of essential maintenance work – A1 South of Grantham resurfacing and safety improvements

I’m writing to inform you of some upcoming maintenance work on the A1, between South Witham and Little Ponton. During the scheme of work, we’ll be resurfacing and refreshing road markings, improving signage, clearing vegetation and carrying out layby maintenance work.

Once completed, all road users will benefit from improved road safety and a smoother driving experience.

When will this work take place?

Work is due to start mid-January 2025 and is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2025.

To keep our programme for these works as short as possible, and to minimise disruption to the local community, we will work between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

What does this mean for you?

To carry out this work safely, we’ll work under full carriageway closures, including slip roads, crossover points and laybys where applicable.

During the closures, a fully signed diversion will be in place from the A1 at Stamford, sending traffic along the A606 and A607 and rejoining the A1 at Grantham). We also plan to have some daytime lane closures on the northbound carriageway.
