As reported in the December 2014 edition of the Grapevine, there are plans to put signage near to both entrances to The Banks to give a little information about the area, as it’s land Whissendine residents have owned for around 250 years. The purpose of the orignal donation to the village was for sheep washing, and the structure of the old wash can still be seen in the brook. It would be good to provide a picture. Has anyone an old photograph of sheep being washed there, or simply of the Whissendine Brook wash in earlier years? It’s a bit of a longshot, but Parish Councillors thought it was worth asking if those with old photos would take a look through them. Otherwise, it was agreed that an artist’s impression would have to serve the purpose.
