Ward Councillor Update - November 2025

Updated: 1 day ago

Flooding Despite the long dry summer, attention and concerns about flooding in the village are once again raised as we go into winter, particularly remembering the awful impact of the floods experienced in January 2025.  During the summer, thanks to the efforts of Yolanda and Chris at the White Lion, the brook by the pub has been dredged by Everards and Severn Trent which hopefully should improve the flow of water away from the village. It is the responsibility of all landowners to keep watercourses free of debris and free flowing. In the interests of the whole village, PLEASE can you do this. We now have the s19 report on the flooding. This is a report on the facts around the floods in October 2023, January 2024 and January 2025. It is somewhat limited in scope and seems to be missing various local factors which contributed to the flood. Whilst this is a final report and cannot be changed,,  I have asked the Parish Council for a summary of the omissions and any inaccuracies so I can report these back to Rutland County Council. There will however be a consultation on the draft Flood risk Management strategy which was also approved by Cabinet on 14th October. As a community affected by flooding I urge you to comment on the strategy as this will form the basis for actions and recommendations arising. We all know that flooding is complex and that there are many agencies involved in the management of flood risk but I will continue to press, on your behalf, for these recommendations to be carried out in order to mitigate the effects of flooding on our village. I will next be at the White Lion on Wednesday 26th November from 18:00 until 20:00 to talk with  residents. Rosemary Powell, County Councillor 01664 474257 rpowell@rutland.gov.uk
