Whissendine 6ix – Six-mile Road Race & Walk

The Whissendine 6ix is an annual six mile road race and walk starting and ending in the village, taking place on a Friday evening during the Village Feast Week (normally early July).  The race follows a natural circuit bordering Stapleford Park. The race starts from the Melton Road/Walton Close junction before heading down past the village green and up the hill, past the White Lion and St Andrew’s Church. At the top of the hill the route turns left for a lovely, long and slightly downhill stretch along Station Road, turning left at the bottom of the road near the Kennels. A flat section to Holygate Road then follows before turning left for a longer, but fairly gentle climb up to the Stapleford Road junction.  The home stretch sees the route following the slightly more challenging undulations of Stapleford Road back to the village, where there is a left turn and a fast downhill stretch back down to the crowds at the finish line on the village green.

On the race night there is normally a BBQ provided by the Village Brownies.
