Staged every 2 years, the Whissendine Flower Festival is held in St Andrews Church over the August bank holiday weekend.

Whissendine Church Flower Festival 2021 – A Moment in Time

Once again, the flower festival has exceeded expectation.

‘Stunning’, ‘Beautiful’, Such creativity, talent and effort, Inspirational’

These were just some of the comments left in the visitors’ book during the festival and echoed by many of those visiting over the bank holiday weekend. There were over 550 visitors during the three days.  Their generous donations with raffle ticket sales and produce sale raised just over £3,000 for the church with the village hall’s delicious fare raising £1,280 for the village hall.

The festival itself and the lead-up to the event is more than just about raising money. Many of those who participated mentioned how wonderful it felt to be part of a community project. The camaraderie throughout the week was evident with lots of help offered and advice given, not to mention the odd moment of hilarity. The Songs of Praise service was a special occasion being able to sing after such a long absence surrounded by the beautiful exhibits.

The festival committee would like to thank the arrangers for their hard work in creating such wonderful diverse displays. Also thank you to those who attended the workshops making the decorations and to all the volunteers both at the church and the village hall. Further thanks for the generous donations for the raffle and produce stall, resulting in wonderful hampers and groaning produce stall. Mike McSweeney has taken the super photos below.

Thank you and well done to everyone for helping to make the festival such a wonderful success.
