Severn Trent Water are to commence a water main replacement scheme in Whissendine to rectify multiple leaks.  This will entail closing Main Street, the Nook, Cow Lane and Ashwell Road at various different times, often for a week or more at a time.

The diversion route during the closure will be signed via Ashwell Road (Whissendine), Whissendine Road (Ashwell), Oakham Road (Ashwell),  Ashwell Road (Oakham), Burley Park Way, (Oakham), Oakham Road (Langham),  Melton Road (Langham), Whissendine Lane (Langham) and Oakham Road (Whissendine) with a reciprocal route.

Alternative routes will be available, but not signed, via Station Road and Stapleford Road, or where works allow, via Cow Lane.

Provisional dates for the road closures are:

  • Main Street from 23rd to 31st May (during the school holidays, to help avoid congestion)
  • Cow Lane from 15th June to mid July
  • Ashwell Road from 20th to 31st July
  • The Nook from 10th Aug to 14th Sep

Rutland County Council understand that this will be a major cause of concern and delays to villagers however a new water main is now essential. Severn Trent Water have said they will do everything they can to make the works go as smoothly as possible.
