A Burns supper was once again held at Market Overton Village Hall for the 36th continuous year. We had a very successful evening celebrating the Scottish poet with fine food, inspired speeches and an entertaining musical interlude, all followed by some most enjoyable ceilidh dancing. It was lovely to see many from Whissendine and we hope to be able to welcome you back again for next year.

Apart from all the usual people who help put together the event this year, we would also like to give special thanks to our Master of Ceremonies, Martin Powell, Barby Jenkins for her Address to the Haggis, Caroline Aston for her informal Toast to the Immortal Memory (all without notes!), Stuart & June Sanderson for their light-hearted Toast to and Reply from the Lasses and Rosamund Wells, Alan Lane and Pamela Hood for their musical input.

Some comments received after the event:-

“..without doubt the best speeches ever! Good luck to 2017 speakers, what an act to follow!”

“..impressed by the way the whole evening was organised; the table decorations, the food and speakers were excellent.”

“Excellent speeches, food and a most hospitable atmosphere.”

The usual superb raffle was held with some most generous prizes available, and our thanks go out to those organisations and people who donate these prizes to us. Altogether the profits from the evening have been passed on to the Market Overton Church maintenance fund, the Village Hall, the Lodge Trust (who also helped with food preparation and waiting on tables) and the Market Overton Play Area Association who this year have major expenses in re-siting and renewing the equipment.

Thank you, one and all, for yet another memorable evening!

The next Burns Supper is Saturday 28th January 2017.
