Pointless. Not this. That. The television programme. I love it. So I was delighted to accept a ticket to watch the filming of an episode. Today, before writing this. And as the friend I went with is disabled we were on the front row. Front row!!

Alexander Armstrong spoke to me, and it was fabuuuulous. Even more than I expected, because it turned out to be a celebrity edition. Yes I could tell you. But then I’d have to kill you. You’ll just have to trust me that it was a great show and keep a look out…..

Pointless. A completely upside down quiz show. The lowest score wins the show. Who thought of that? (Richard Osman I think; who is taller and bigger than I ever imagined. I felt short and thin. Hmm)

Well actually it’s not a new idea. It’s an idea which appears in – yes, you guessed it – the Bible. In God’s world the bottom of the pile are brought to the top; the least becomes the greatest and those on the outside are brought in to the centre. Pointless perhaps in this world’s value but very, very valuable in the kingdom of God.

R.S.Thomas -poet-priest – captured it much better than I can:

It’s a long way off but inside it
There are quite different things going on:
Festivals at which the poor man
Is king and the consumptive is
Healed; mirrors in which the blind look
At themselves and love looks at them
Back; and industry is for mending
The bent bones and the minds fractured
By life. It’s a long way off, but to get
There takes no time and admission
Is free, if you purge yourself
Of desire, and present yourself with
Your need only and the simple offering
Of your faith, green as a leaf.

Blessings,
Janet
